It is never too late to heal and enjoy a vibrant life. Here are some of my favorite recovery stories from people over 50.
1. Dr. Eleanor Stein from Canada healed from ME/CFS in her mid 50’s, after a 30 year journey, which began in medical residency. She is currently 60 and last year went on a trip to Antartica to see the penguins.
2. Irene had ME/CFS for 33 years, which began when she was a busy mum burning the candle on both ends. She appears to be in her 70’s. She now goes on 6 km walks to the neighboring village.
3. Hilde had ME/CFS for over 20 years. At her worst, she was bed-bound 22 out of 24 hours and had to crawl to the bathroom. This is her full recovery story.
4. Ali Kempson shares her ME/CFS recovery story after 12 years.
5. Valerie shares her full recovery from ME/CFS after 30 years.
6. Claudia shares her full recovery from ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia after 33 years.
7. Christine, my friend from Australia, had ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia for 5 years, which began in her mid-40’s. She is now living her best life in her youthful early 50’s.
8. Marilyn recovered at 70 after 30 years with ME/CFS. She shares how mind-body tools and emotional healing were key to her recovery, and she is now active and skiing again. Watch her inspiring story on Rebecca Tolin’s channel:
9. Dusty, a 74-year-old former teacher and national-level cyclist, shares how she was mostly housebound for two years with Long Covid, facing repeated setbacks and little hope from doctors, before ultimately making a full recovery and returning to cycling 140 miles a week and training for championship races. Before Long Covid, she had faced bouts of mono in her 50’s and 60’s, but now has unlocked new levels of health in her 70’s.
Her story highlights the importance of perseverance, holistic approaches, and the support of recovery programs, demonstrating that it’s possible to regain a vibrant, active life even after severe illness later in life. She shares her story on Miguel Bautista’s CFS Recovery channel and Raelan Agle’s channel.
